AI or Artificial Intelligence claims to have been developed to the point where it can write original SEO content in a matter of minutes.  All you need to do is give it a few prompts and away it will go.
 
ChatGPT is just one of the AI tools available for anyone to use. Several of our clients have asked if AI really is good for writing SEO content and so we decided to do a little experiment.

What Does The Upshot Media Think About AI Generated Content?

We think that AI is a great tool for helping anyone to write SEO content - IF the text generated is used as a starting point, rather than a finished product.
 
Writing SEO content is taxing.  Sometimes it’s hard to figure out how to fit the keywords into the text, organise your ideas AND make the writing ‘flow’. However, it’s important that the words on your website represent your business ethos and also reflect the character of your organisation. 
 
Do you want your products and services to be perceived as being professional? Relaxed? Cheap and cheerful? Tastefully understated? Luxurious? Valuable? Traditional? Or quirky? The tone of your writing will express more than just words.
 
The feeling from our team is that whilst AI is very good at generating informative, SEO-friendly content, it hasn’t quite mastered the art of describing the character of an organisation. Only a human being who truly understands what underpins a particular business can inject warmth and feeling into text.  But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use AI generated SEO content. Remember, it’s only a tool and there’s nothing to stop you editing and embellishing AI generated text.

Our Recommendations For Using AI Generated SEO Content

  1. Review the content. Ensure that any facts are correct, that you actually agree with the content and that spelling and grammar is correct. (E.g. In our test piece, ChatGPT uses the word ‘optimized’ which is the spelling in the USA. In the UK, we would normally write ‘optimised’)
  2. Add your own voice to the writing. Read the text carefully, would you use those exact words in conversation? To add your voice to the writing, re-jig some or all of the sentences using language that feels more natural to you.
  3. Use a plagiarism checker to ensure the writing truly is unique. Search engines don’t like duplicate content.  For best results from your SEO content, whether it’s a product description or a landing page, use an online plagiarism checker to make sure that your AI generated content hasn’t been used anywhere else on the web.

Should I Use AI To Write SEO Content?

The choice of whether or not to use AI to generate SEO content for your website is entirely yours.  Why not create a test page or two and see what clients, friends and family think of it? Or use AI to re-write an existing web page and see if your search engine ranking is affected by it.
